On Obama and Infanticide

"Infanticide is a bracing word" says NRO's Andrew McCarthy who then adds, "But in this context, it’s the only word that fits." McCarthy makes this reference in an article entitled Why Obama Really Voted For Infanticide.

"There wasn’t any question about what was happening. The abortions were going wrong. The babies weren’t cooperating. They wouldn’t die as planned. Or, as Illinois state senator Barack Obama so touchingly put it, there was “movement or some indication that, in fact, they’re not just coming out limp and dead.”

No, Senator. They wouldn’t go along with the program. They wouldn’t just come out limp and dead. They were coming out alive. Born alive. Babies. Vulnerable human beings Obama, in his detached pomposity, might otherwise include among “the least of my brothers.” But of course, an abortion extremist can’t very well be invoking Saint Matthew, can he? So, for Obama, the shunning of these least of our brothers and sisters — millions of them — is somehow not among America’s greatest moral failings.

No. In Obama’s hardball, hard-Left world, these least become “that fetus, or child — however you want to describe it.”

Most of us, of course, opt for “child,” particularly when the “it” is born and living and breathing and in need of our help. Particularly when the “it” is clinging not to guns or religion but to life.
But not Barack Obama. As an Illinois state senator, he voted to permit infanticide."

Let there be no doubt whatsoever that Obama actually did vote "to permit infanticide". First, one can cite his vote in the Illinois senate (in committee) on March 6th, 2002 where he voted "no" on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. A month later, on April 4th, 2002 he would vote "no" again, this time on the senate floor in a roll call vote.

This is where it gets dicey. In August of 2002, the US Congress passed the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act "To protect infants who are born alive." It passed the US Senate on a vote of 98-0 and even such staunch pro-aborts as Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton voted in favor of it.

In 2003, the same (Illinois state) bill's language was slightly changed and in effect, was now identical to the federal one. As one can see in this link, Obama first voted to amend the bill, which altered the languge to make it the same as the federal one, and then voted "no" on passing it. (DPA on this form stands for "Do Pass Amended").

Obama has many times denied that the bills were the same, that is until August of 2008 when the New York Sun ran an article in which they stated....

"The dispute flared again last week when a leading opponent of legalized abortion, the National Right to Life Committee, posted records from the Illinois Legislature showing that Mr. Obama, while chairman of a Senate committee, in 2003, voted against a "Born Alive" bill that contained nearly identical language to the federal bill that passed unanimously, including the provision limiting its scope.

The group says the documents prove Mr. Obama misrepresented his record. Indeed, Mr. Obama appeared to misstate his position in the CBN interview on Saturday when he said the federal version he supported "was not the bill that was presented at the state level."

His campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate..."

Another argument attempting to downplay Obama's voting record on the matter goes something like this. "Obama is a father of two young kids. Anybody like that couldnt support infanticide". I thought Erick Erickson's reply to this sort of reasoning in his article entitled Obama in His Own Words: There Is No Doubt He Supported Infanticide was quite interesting. "Margaret Sanger and Josef Mengele both had children too."

Let the children live. There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of families or couples unable to have children desiring to adopt children but there are not enough to go around.

In certain cases, yes I do. I can differentiate between life that is innocent and life that has been tried and convicted of heinous crimes.

Ginx,

I'm still waiting for evidence that I am a racsist in any way. Please address that little matter before posting again or simply go away.

Please explain why you would rather that those who were aborted do not get to choose their own path to Hell. Why are you infringing on their rights?

Tinkbell, could you substantiate your little screed with some of this "reason" that atheists claim to have in such abundance? If youre just going to bitch, do it elsewhere.

In this and all other matters where Obama successfully passed himself off as a centrist and hid his extreme and radical views, it does not matter to his apologists. The important thing to them is, like Carter and Clinton before him, Obama was successful in hoodwinking the majority of the American people and got elected. The fact that he has turned out to be the radical, inexperienced left-wing idealogue that many of us warned about does not matter to his cheerleaders, who are now saying, "Oh! So sorry. Too bad, so sad!"

Good post, JD. I see your Greek chorus is continuing with their insightful and intellectually stimulating counter-arguments.

You must be kidding. BO campaigned on health care reform. Don't be stupid.

The republicans had eight years of majority control and all they did was send us deeper and deeper in debt.

J Curtis said...

I agree Froggie. When the last republican controlled congress was swept into office, they started acting like democrats instead of the fiscal conservatives that they traditionally are.

The republicans were cleaned out last election cyle and as a result, now we are reaping a whirlwind.

Ronald Reagan championed nuclear reduction his whole presidency.
Finally, our nuclear capability remains the most efficient and best in the world. There is no risk in this treaty with Russia.
BO also campaigned on reducing world tensions and nuclear capabilities. This trety will show countries like Iran and North Korea that we are following the same guidelines we are asking them to follow.

BO has not done anything he did not campaign on.

You list Palin as some kind of authority? She knows no better than reduce this strategic treaty to the status of a schoolyard fight?

Savage? You must be kidding.
Gingerich- Has been
Liz Cheny- never been- loser

Who do you think the Reps will run in '12?
Palin-Bachmann? Hahahahaha!
Beck-Palin? Hee hee!

As it looks right now, Texas Govenor Rick Perry is probably a front runner, but far too right for most Americans.

Repeat after me. Community organizer... Governor of Alaska...Community organizer... Governor of Alaska...

Which one had to make more command decisions do you think?

As it looks right now, Texas Govenor Rick Perry is probably a front runner, but far too right for most Americans.

Romney would be the presumptive frontrunner. Perry would make a good VP choice.

Exactly waht executive experience had Obama before being elected president?

I don't think anyone in their right mind considers Sarah Palin more of an authority than Obama.
I mean - have you ever seen Sarah Palin's birth certificate? I haven't. And if I did, it was probably forged.

Let's list Obama's accomplishments prior to getting elected president.

1)Community Organizer

2) (Insert the sound of crickets chirping here)

Palin:

"Palin had 8 years of Executive experience as Mayor and Governor. Obama had none.

"Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's.

She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don't even know about.

she has a diverse background of experience as a professional journalist, city council woman, Mayor, Governor and Mother of 5.

she has gotten a lot done and has an incredible record for only being a Governor for 2 years. She has vetoed 300 spending proposals and has an 80% approval rating in Alaska.

She has shown enormous courage with her oldest son going off to serve in the military and her youngest son having downs syndrome.

She defeated the incumbent when she ran for Mayor and she defeated the incumbent Republican Governor in the primary before going on to defeat the Democrat in the general election."

Fought corruption in her own party..

"I was really impressed. In fact I already was impressed greatly even before that, after she resigned a good position (Alaska Gas and Oil Regulatory Commission) because a fellow Commission member (Chair of the Alaska Republican Party) misused his office and position. He was using the fax, computers, printing room and all to promote the Republican endeavors while in a state job. That is a huge no-no in any government employment position.

She resigned and made her point, and within weeks Randy Ruderich (the above bad guy) found his butt out on the street and a subsequent investigation found him guilty and he was fined $12,000. Small change actually but a giant point was made.

Next she went after our most horrible Governor ever, Governor Murkowski, and damned if she didn't beat him! All of us here in Alaska, except the Democrats, are sick of our state's corruption. That fact was shouted to the heavens after she was elected with an overwhelming point spread.

After she got into office she started going after corrupt legislators, and with the FBI's help we've put four of them in prison, indicted six more and the "Corrupt Bastard's Club" as they arrogantly called themselves (even had hats made with CBC on the front!) suddenly found it no fun anymore." Link with more examples.

Please list Obama's some of anti-corruption campaigns for comparison. Starting with his most successful one.
