Former libertatrian vice presidential candidate Wayne Allyn Root (above) has written a smashing article detailing the evasion of Obama and his handlers about releasing his college records from when he (allegedly) attended Columbia University. Below are some juicy excerpts to pique your interest...
"If anyone should have questions about Obama’s record at Columbia University, it’s me. We both graduated (according to Obama) Columbia University, Class of ’83. We were both (according to Obama) Pre-Law and Political Science majors. And I thought I knew most everyone at Columbia. I certainly thought I’d heard of all of my fellow Political Science majors. But not Obama (or as he was known then- Barry Soetoro). I never met him. Never saw him. Never even heard of him. And none of the classmates that I knew at Columbia have ever met him, saw him, or heard of him.
But don’t take my word for it. The Wall Street Journal reported in 2008 that Fox News randomly called 400 of our Columbia classmates and never found one who had ever met Obama.
Now all of this mystery could be easily and instantly dismissed if Obama released his Columbia transcripts to the media. But even after serving as President for 3 1/2 years he refuses to unseal his college records. Shouldn’t the media be as relentless in pursuit of Obama’s records as Romney’s? Shouldn’t they be digging into Obama’s past–beyond what he has written about himself–with the same boundless enthusiasm as Mitt’s?
The first question I’d ask is, if you had great grades, why would you seal your records? So let’s assume Obama got poor grades. Why not release the records? He’s president of the free world, for gosh sakes. He’s commander-in-chief of the U.S. military. Who’d care about some poor grades from three decades ago, right? So then what’s the problem? Doesn’t that make the media suspicious? Something doesn’t add up...
If you could unseal Obama’s Columbia University records I believe you’d find that:
A) He rarely ever attended class.
B) His grades were not those typical of what we understand it takes to get into Harvard Law School.
C) He attended Columbia as a foreign exchange student.
D) He paid little for either undergraduate college or Harvard Law School because of foreign aid and scholarships given to a poor foreign students like this kid Barry Soetoro from Indonesia.
If you think I’m “fishing” then prove me wrong. Open up your records Mr. President. What are you afraid of?"

Indeed, why not release them? I must admit that when I first heard of recent clamorings from the Obama camp that Romny release more tax records than he already has, it was the biggest display of chutzpah I had ever seem. Obama has an entire laundry list of records he refuses to release. I figured, 'Why not challenge Obama to let independent documents experts examine the original of the obviously fake long form birth certificate he touts as genuine and Romney should offer to release more tax information then and only then'. Wayne Allyn Root might be onto something here people.

Do the American people really care? At best we find out he was a poor student and at worst we might find out he really was a foreign exchange student. That doesn't seem to matter to anyone in America anymore as long as 1) He is a Republican and 2) they keeping drinking at the fountain of never ending tax-payer funded federal dollars. Prior to 1960 character mattered, transparency was necessary, and reputation was indispensable. We threw those things overboard long ago to keep a ship of fools afloat.
If it turned out that Obama had Indonesian citizenship and never actually applied for American citizenship again, than an usurper is currently occupying the Oval Office.
I agree that a significant portion of the population couldn't care less. But they would still be constitutionally ignorant.
All it takes is one or two people in a position to know, or one or two "journalists" who would finally do their job, and the whole house of cards would come crashing down.
Item: No birth certificate has been made public.
TRUE. But the state of Hawaii has, once again, said Mr. Obama's birth certificate is on file. A certificate of live birth has been released. A "Factor" investigation also showed Mr. Obama was born in a Honolulu hospital and we stand by our reporting.
Item: Barack Obama received foreign student aid while in college.

The problem for Romney in this kind of strategy is that it will serve as a distraction from his central premise: that Obama’s record as President shows that his policies have failed, and that the US needs new leadership, especially on the economy. Even if he did adopt this strategy, the Obama campaign has Harry Reid playing Tail Gunner Joe on this issue, keeping a safe distance from the mud-slinging. Even if, as Root supposes, Axelrod has been running Reid as a front man, a Romney challenge on Obama’s college records won’t shut Reid up. Instead, Romney will end up punching below his weight, way off message, while Team Obama stays ostensibly on the sidelines and benefits from the derailing of Romney’s messaging. And by making the offer at all, Romney legitimizes the demand for the release of his tax returns. — —Ed Morrisey
I’d suggest it would also make Romney look like a lunatic and that it would do nothing to deflect criticism over not releasing tax returns. Indeed, responding to such demands by bringing up irrelevant nonsense about college transcripts that has been a central part of birtherism from the beginning would play right into the Obama campaign’s hands by making Romney seem as if he’s a captive of the far-right lunatic fringe. As Morrissey says, if Romney is going to succeed in this election it’s going to be because he focused on the economy, not because he engaged in some insane plan to force Obama to reveal thirty year old college transcripts that have no relevance whatsoever to the race for the White House. —Doug Mataconis
